Experimental/Experiential Personal Development
Being better versions of ourselves is an experiment. Let's get curious.
Peace,
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and rethinking about my personal development journey, which got me thinking about ya’ll. Because I would describe Walking The Path by saying I write about personal development that is powered by spirituality. (Nice blurb, right?) Lately, I’ve been really leaning into the concept of my development being one big, ongoing experiment. I wanted to share this concept with you all and give you some questions to reflect on. (If you wanna skip right to those questions, scroll to the bottom.)
If you remember, in my Chaotic Structure post, I talked about the influence Uranus has on me and how that planetary energy often manifests in the realm of science and experimentation. I think my Saturn return has helped me become a lot better at honing that energy and using it to get results that are beneficial. Being curious about myself has been a lot more useful in my personal development than trying to force discipline. I feel like my Uranus in Capricorn and my Saturn in Aquarius are winking at me right now saying “You finally cracked the code.”
Focusing on my experience, being very present with myself, and the energy I’m navigating, and observing myself from a more neutral place (like a scientist observing an experiment) has become a necessary part of my process. And now that I am a full-time artist, giving way to my process feels a lot more natural. But one doesn’t need to be a full-time artist to benefit from this approach.
Below I’ve compiled a list of questions that I hope you take the time to answer thoughtfully and honestly. Answering these questions is a great start to adopting the experimental/experiential approach to personal development. The questions are designed to help you reflect on your routines and how you manage them, your habits and what’s driving them, how these things make you feel, and how all of that affects your personal growth.
How do you typically start your day?
How do you typically end your day?
What things do you do on a daily basis?
What do you most enjoy doing throughout the day/week?
Do you currently find your routines helpful or restrictive?
Do you feel guilty when you don’t perform your routines correctly/on time?
What usually triggers a period of “falling off” of your routines?
How do you approach the process of remodeling your routines?
How do you measure your personal progress?
Do you feel one or some types of progress hinder other types of progress?
Do you expect yourself to progress at several things at the same time?
What does failure feel like to you?
What makes you feel most confident about of yourself?
I highly suggest revisiting these questions on a cyclical basis, maybe once every 3 months or so. Seasonally, if you will. Or on a more frequent basis if that’s what you need. Your answers to these questions are data that can be really helpful as you’re creating goals and guidelines for yourself.
I hope as we approach this total lunar eclipse next week, you’re granting yourself a lot of grace, unconditional love, and self-prioritization.
I’ll catch you in the next post💫
Love,
Mila
I needed this. I’m trying to get myself into better routines and such leaving my return and I can’t seem to break out. I’ll be journaling these
