Walking the Path subscribers, hello, hello. Peace. Happy full moon in tropical Leo. This is Kamila Shakur, author and host of Walking the Path, where I write and talk about self-discovery, spiritual development and we just talk about a lot of the spiritual nature of what it means to walk this path and live this life.
I decided to do a little collective reading for you guys, in honor of the full moon. This full moon just feels very powerful to me personally, I don't know about y'all. I don't know how the energy is hitting y'all, where the moon is transiting through your chart. But for me and also on a global scale, this full moon feels very important.
So I felt like this is a good time to offer you guys a reading. This is a collective message for my Walking the Path subscribers. So let's get into it.
The first card we have here is the Eight of Emotions, also known as the Eight of Cups, and on this card, there is an eclipse. The main, main illustration on this card is like this huge eclipse.
And right now we don't have any eclipses, but the sun and the moon are in opposite signs right now. So the moon is in Leo, the sun is in Aquarius. Fire and air. Eight of Cups, this is, we're talking about water. We're talking about emotions. We're talking about how it feels to leave behind things that are no longer working.
When it's time to walk away from things that are not fulfilling to us anymore. On a collective level. I very strongly feel that this is related to, the systems, the oppressive systems that we have all been living under and just kind of accepting as the status quo. You know, I wrote last year about emotional sustenance through political alignment and there is not a separation.
Between the emotional work in the spiritual work that we do individually and the collective work that we, you know, have to commit to for our communities. And so that we can move forward into building new worlds where liberation is what we're building around instead of exploitation and oppression.
This has a lot to do with how we feel. And when we're talking about Leo, Leo is very much focused on, it's about the heart, right? Even though Leo is a fire sign, Leo is about the heart. That's the, the body part that that sign is associated with. And it's also, you know, about how we feel about ourselves and what we can offer others.
Do we have the courage? Courage is another theme of Leo. Do we have the courage to discover how we really feel instead of repressing and kind of like living on autopilot? Do we have the courage to actually explore our feelings in relationship to what is happening with us personally, as well as what is happening in the world? In our communities, are we willing to leave behind these old ways of, you know, keeping trying to keep our emotions dormant and not paying attention to them and, you know, not paying attention to also when we're dealing with water in the Tarot, it's not just emotions.
We're also dealing with creativity. How are we? Leaving behind ways where ways of life where we have been neglectful of our emotional state, neglectful of, you know, the world around us, by neglecting to really see and tap in with the people that we share space with the people that we share this planet with.
And also, how have we been neglecting our creativity? Some of you may know I have another newsletter called
which comes through my project, Creative Spirit Work. Creativity and spirituality are very much linked. You know what I'm saying? We were created by a creator and we have the ability to create and it's our responsibility. You know, part of our responsibility, our spiritual responsibility is our. Is, you know, paying attention to our creativity to our artistry, right? And so eight of cups. Is really trying to get us to think about are we ready to leave behind this way of being where we have been neglecting our emotional well being.
Neglecting the well being of others, neglecting our creativity. Are we ready to shift? Are we ready to release those old ways? Those ways that say, you know, we must always be laboring. We must always be proving our worth through, you know, how much, uh, how productive we can be and how much we can sell our labor for and how we can, you know.
How we can be a cog, how we can, you know, fit into the machine, right? It's asking us to, this energy is kind of helping to usher us away from that line of thinking. So that we can embrace the wholeness of who we are as individuals and then also collectively as well. And again, this is like a responsibility.
We don't like to think about our emotions as a responsibility. We don't like to think about our creativity as a responsibility. But spiritually, if you know your spirituality requires you to be responsible, if you know that there are things you have to do in spirit in order to live with yourself, right?
In order to have peace. Then you accept the fact that your responsibilities go beyond just like, okay, I'm at the altar pouring water for my ancestors. Okay. I prayed. Okay. I meditated. Again, it's getting out of that autopilot mode and really understanding and really paying attention to how do you, how are you really feeling?
What are the feelings that are in your body that are stored in your body that are not The attention that are just there, you're like a rock, you know what I mean? How are we moving away from just carrying energy around through our emotions? Because we're not engaged enough with ourselves, with our, our own spirit, with our spirit guides, with the land we reside on, with the people in our communities, because we're not being present.
We're just moving through life, dragging this energy around and not processing it, not alchemizing it, not utilizing it to create, you know, worlds that are better for us and others to live in. So eight of cups is talking about moving away from that on a collective level, but you know, first it starts with you.
You have to acknowledge how you're doing that or not doing that in your life. And make those connections to how it is affecting others. And so the Eight of Cups is talking about walking away from that autopilot, repressed type of way of life so that we can embrace the fullness of who we are. It takes courage to walk away from what's familiar to you.
And again, courage is a theme of Leo. Next, we have the Page of Emotions, also known as the Page of Cups. So this is the second Cups card we have here, even though Leo is a fire sign, right? We have this energy of cups, of emotions, of water. Mind you, in Sidereal astrology, this full moon is in Cancer. So, I kind of think that's why we get in all the water cards.
Not to say it's not connected to Leo. I'm not like, I'm not an astrologer. I don't do this for a living. I don't understand all the sciences of it. But, I personally be able to see and like, recognize the energy of both systems sometimes. So, don't, don't, don't judge me. But yeah, so page of cups, the energy of the page is very kind of like new.
And as we just had the eight of cups talking about walking away, it's kind of like we're walking away into this new chapter where we're being offered
a new way of thinking about things. Page of cups, you know, is, is a lot about creativity, about playfulness, finding possibility. We're just reading a couple of the keywords from the book, uh, unexpected magic opportunities to refresh and rejoice a mystical and poetic energy, a youthful and imaginative person.
And it's really giving like childlike energy, this end of this week. And this full moon energy and also, and this is what I was saying about the energies being connected. Sometimes childlike energy is also Leo. Leo also rules over children, right? So it's like, you're leaving behind, we are leaving behind this, this way of being that I talked about earlier, and we're moving into discovering.
What is possible for our future again on a personal level, but also on a collective level. On Sunday, I'm having this virtual studio session called Sound Ancestors Studio. And the theme of this studio session is ritualizing radical imagination.
That's the thing that we're going to be going over all of 2024 and possibly going into 2025 over at Creative Spirit Work. So if that sounds like something you're interested in, ritualizing radical imagination, even if you don't come to the studio session, you know, subscribe to Creative Spirit Work because I already posted one issue this month on the theme, and then we're going to be digging more into that over the course of the year.
And there is a necessity in tapping into our inner child and being in tune with the children around us. Even if you're not around children, like being in tune with the future children in your lineage. Even if you don't plan to have any children, like even if these children are not related to you biologically.
There are children in your community. There are children in the future, right? Who will inherit, who will inherit the world that we are currently reconstructing. Okay.
Allowing ourselves to be available to that energy is going to be very necessary. And although we have to take our responsibilities serious. There is a necessity of play and creativity. Like I talked about creativity with that, that last card. There's a necessity for those things as we build a new life for ourselves individually and collectively, the ideas that there's no room for play.
There's no room for creativity. Everything has to be monetized. Everything has to be a business. Everything has to be this, that, and the third. Everything has to be exploited. Everything needs to be extracted from. Those are the things that we are leaving behind. Right? And so part of leaving those things behind is embracing new ideologies and embracing new ways of being.
And part of that is like realizing that this new fresh energy can now come into our lives and can now permeate our consciousness on several levels because we are, we are distancing ourselves from what is no longer working, really what has never worked. Okay. What has never worked for oppressed people.
Some of you are listening to this and you are, you know, oppressed people. Some of you are listening to this and you may be the oppressor. Or you may be descended from the oppressor. You may be the oppressor and not realize it or not know it. This also comes with doing that work of like really getting in touch with who you are.
And it doesn't mean operating from a place of guilt because at the end of the day, if you're operating from a place of guilt, then you will be able to feel satisfied in whatever you're doing. And whatever your responsibilities are, whenever that guilt goes away, and in reality, this is lifelong work. Yeah, I feel like a lot of y'all needed to hear that, honestly, because I'm, I'm getting an uptick in subscribers on walking the path and not everybody that, you know, not everybody is like from a couple of years ago, where it's like, this is my Twitter community.
You know, I'm saying, and most of us are black. Most of us are queer. Most of us are this, that, and the third. There are people now who have joined walk in the path who probably are not getting this message anywhere else that you have a responsibility.
You have a responsibility to acknowledge what your role is in keeping oppressive, oppressive systems running. Just because you didn't build the system doesn't mean you don't have a responsibility to dismantle it. And I talked about that in the last post about being the destroyer, getting comfortable with being a destroyer.
Everybody, you know, loved the idea of being a creator and making things and building things. People don't like the idea that they have to be the one to take a sledgehammer to something and knock it down. They don't like the idea that they have to be the one to call something out or call someone in and check them.
They don't like the idea of, you know, having to do the hard thing, doing things that are necessary, but don't feel good. Don't feel like love and light, even if, even though like love don't always, it's not always soft spoken and light comes from fire and sometimes fire destroys, you know what I mean?
So anyway, back from that little tangent, page of cups is really recognizing again that this new, fresh energy of possibility of imagining what is possible. Like I said, when we're working on ritualizing our imagination, uh, ritualizing radical imagination. We have to habitual. That's really just habitually spending time, you know, conceiving the possibilities that lay ahead of us and choosing which ones we want to give our energy to because it really starts within you in your body in your mind.
So Page of Cups is really trying to alert us to the fact that there are, there are ways to build and rebuild from what is currently, you know, being dismantled, what is currently crumbling. All empires fall. You know what I'm saying? Like, like, like Mos Def said, you know, are we witnessing the collapse of an empire?
We are, we are witnessing it with our own eyes. We're all seeing it, right? Empires take a long time to collapse, you know what I mean? But in the wake of that, as we're walking, as the empires are collapsing, as the imperialist,
Nation states and things like that are collapsing and we're walking away from the ideologies that support that. It's not like we're just walking into nothingness. We, we have to have hope. We have to lean into our creativity and our creative abilities. We have to Look to the children and listen to them and listen to our own inner child.
A lot of inner child work can be done this weekend. It can look like you know, doing writing a letter to your inner child, it can look like reading a book that you're that you used to read when you were a kid watching shows that you used to watch when you were a kid movies, going to the park playing.
Calling up childhood friends, looking through photo albums, doing inner child meditations. It can look a lot of different ways. This will be a very good time to do that, especially because moon and Leo in tropical anyway. Either way you look at it, like, like I said, Leo rules over children. So if you're looking at it from a tropical standpoint, the moon is in Leo.
The moon deals with emotions, right? The subconscious. Intuitiveness. So we can connect the moon and Leo that way with doing inner child work. And then also if you're looking at it from the sidereal astrology perspective, the moon is in cancer, which is in its own domicile. Cancer rules the moon. So the moon is cancer is what?
nurturing, motherhood. You know what I'm saying? This is an opportunity to reparent yourself. So either way you look at it, this end of this week, while the moon is in Leo, while the moon is in tropical Leo sidereal cancer, while we are in that energy, it's a good time to get in touch with your inner child to make time for the children in your life to to make time to think about what Futures you would like for your children for your future, you know, the lineage work of, you know, imagining a better future for your descendants.
You know what I'm saying? If people in our family didn't weren't radical enough to imagine better things for us. Some of us would, you know, be in even worse situations than we already are, even though we're disadvantaged or oppressed. We would be even worse off if somebody didn't imagine a better future for us, right?
So have fun with it. Utilize this energy to like get curious about what is possible. And if someone comes into your life, you know, with this energy. Give them the time of day. Be present with them. And lastly, we have the eight of inspiration, also known as the eight of wands. So this is the only fire card that we have.
We have water and fire represented, which I don't know why I'm just realizing that. But again, water and fire is both represented in this reading, kind of like a nod to each Astrological, both of those astrological systems, both tropical and, sidereal. Eight of Wands talks about moving forward. It talks about not procrastinating.
It's giving you the green light. So if you want to, uh huh, uh huh, you got the green light, uh huh, uh huh. So. It's saying that like, so after we do this phase of walking away of, you know, choosing a different path and then doing this inner child work and this imagination work and seeing what's possible and being present with the children and giving energy and giving time to our creativity and blah, blah, blah, as we're, as we're, as those things take place, it's like, Okay.
We don't have to wait to take action with what we have learned and what we have gained. Like, you don't need to do the walking away and do the, all of this stuff and then just sit on like your insights and just sit on what you've learned and not really do anything with it. Not really change. Not really move forward with it. Like having the eight of cups and the eight of wands is like very much go get move.
You know what I'm saying? Like do not linger. Do not linger in this energy. Do not, hem and haw because there's like, why? Move forward. We need to move forward. It's not about rushing. It's not about doing anything before it's time. Baby steps are still steps. And some of you guys are going to be feeling like, Okay, there's this big step I need to take and you might be feeling hesitant.
Am I ready? You are ready. Whether that be, you know, taking like a leadership position that you didn't expect to have to take. Or, you know, starting something like there's this project that you've been, you know, that you've been thinking about and want to get into the world, stop hemming and hawing. Either start the project or you've already started it and you need to like, get it in front of people.
You might need to launch the thing. You might need to, whatever it is, whatever those next steps are. Eight of Wands isn't talking about launching yourself into the ether with no plan. It's just talking about moving forward intentionally and taking those next steps. It's time. And again, you know, going back to Leo being about courage, it's time, like it's going to take you being courageous enough to once again, like I said.
Embrace who you are, what you have to offer, what your responsibilities are. Some of you, you're going to have to, you know, take the lead in like teaching other people about these new worlds that we have the responsibility to build. You're going to have to be the one to tell people like, Hey, what you're doing or what you're saying is that's actually not right.
Like, it's not even about like having a. thing of I'm right and you're wrong, even if you are right. It's more so about like having the courage to challenge somebody. Having the courage to be the person in a space that said that, that doesn't just let stuff slide when you know it's wrong.
Doesn't mean you have to be rude, but you might have to be. It all depends. You know what I mean? It's just about moving forward. You don't have to be somebody that you're not. You don't have to do anything that It doesn't feel right to you, but you know what it is you need to do and you need to be taking the next steps and not procrastinating with it because you're ready.
So that is the end of the reading. I hope that you all have an amazing end to your week, an amazing weekend. I hope that you utilize this energy, intentionally and, just once again:
